-
What are your classroom ratios?
-
Each class has a 2:15 teacher to student ratio. Each classroom has a lead teacher and an assistant teacher.
-
-
How much outside time do students receive?
-
We understand that outdoor play is critical for children’s education and development. In addition to music & movement activities indoors, as weather permits, each class will spend up to 30 minutes in the morning outdoors on regular days.
-
-
How much screen time do students receive?
-
Teachers may on rare occasions utilize educational videos or digital apps that are aligned with lessons. Otherwise, screen time is not used at the Preschool. When utilized, screen time is always planned ahead of time.
-
-
What is your approach to behavior/discipline management?
-
Maker School teachers utilize the technique of redirection to manage behavior. Children are encouraged to talk through their inappropriate behaviors and find solutions to problems/future choices with adult guidance and prompting. If children are unable to manage themselves during an activity or classroom center, teachers may remove them from that area and provide them with something else to do.
-
Discipline is individualized and consistent for each child, appropriate to the child’s level of understanding, and directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control. Educators will only use positive methods of discipline and guidance that encourage self-esteem, self-control, and self-direction.
-
Positive discipline and guidance techniques utilized may include recognizing appropriate behavior instead of focusing on unacceptable behavior; reminding the child of behavior expectations by using clear, positive statements; redirecting behavior using positive statements and using brief supervised separation from the group, when appropriate for the child’s age and development. Matters of discipline are ordinarily dealt with by the teacher or, if necessary, by the site director. In either case, parents/guardians will always be kept up to date on issues within the classroom that involve/affect their child(ren).
-
-
Do you provide a snack for my child?
-
The Maker School will provide a daily snack for each child who does not have dietary restrictions. Water will also be provided, and children are encouraged to bring a water bottle of their own each day. Children with specific dietary restrictions/needs will be required to provide their own snacks.
-
-
What security measures are in place to protect my child?
-
As the eyes and ears of our program, our teachers are the best deterrent to dangerous situations. All teachers are trained in the necessary procedures to safeguard your child in case of fire, dangerous weather, natural disaster, or an intruder. CrashWorks itself also has a management team who are all dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of students, and there is always no less than one member of the management team on the premises during Maker School hours.
-
The doors to the building remain locked for the duration of Maker School, as we are not open to the public during those hours.
-
Exceptions occur during our weekly Mommy & Me class on Thursdays from 10-11a, and during field trips.
